Great Keyboarding Filler!
I tried something new today in my Keyboarding class and it was a hit! Some students needed more time to finish their assignments, leaving the faster students with time on their hands. We had a Text Twist Competition (located at the games.com website). Students recorded their high score on the board and the top scorers were rewarded with a treat. I am considering keeping a running scoreboard for the Trimester. I enjoyed seeing how engaged my students were while knowing that the game encourages the building of speed, accuracy, and thinking on their toes. Have fun!

In order to make this a success please do not question the quality of the entry, if it is something you are thinking about you know another business and marketing educator is probably doing the same. Regardless of what you think it is better to add then not to add a new entry or comment for it takes all of us collaborating to make ALL of us better educators which in turns produces better student results.

Thanks for posting this game. I am going to use it today as a good break from the regular typing.
ReplyDeleteI use this game and other word games for my word processing students that finish their assignments early but I would like to use wikispaces, blogs or other Web 2.0 tools for these students. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteBecky, if you do some sort of bell ringer exercise like journal writing you could very easily use a blog. I use a guided journal where I give the students a quote or saying and then pose questions to them that they write about.
ReplyDeleteBlogs are easy to use. All the students would have to do is sign up at Blogger or LiveJournal or any other blog hosting site and then post to it. The only concern I would have is having the students personal information on the web along with not knowing how you could monitor their blog posting. Some school districts may have an issue with having the students personal information on the web because of child predators.
Just Some thoughts.
